wonder

On Saturday, May 07, 2022, at 10.30 at University Central Library (building U6 Agorà, Piazza dell’Ateneo Nuovo 1, Milano) there will be an animated reading for children, as a part of the initiatives of “Leggo anch’io”.

Martino Negri, professor of Childhood Literature and Literature Didactics at the University of Milan-Bicocca, together with Federica Gardella, a teacher at Bambini Bicocca primary school, will read “The journey” by Peter van den Ende (Terre di mezze, 2021).

“The journey” is a book without words, dominated by black and white images, a visual journey that requests slowness, attention, and patience and requires the sight to stop and have in return wonder and thought. Visionary sea ambients and surprising encounters offer the reader an occasion to enjoy the vision but also precious cues to reason on the relationship between men and the environment, the present and the future.

The eyes of the participants will be invited to follow the journey of a fragile paper ship with a mysterious passenger till the arrival, after many vicissitudes, in the harbor of a big distant city: anyone will be able to tell what they’re looking at, ask questions on what he/she doesn’t understand, share his/her ideas and intuitions on the meaning of the images that will follow from page to page and of the reasons why a story, apparently weird talks to each of us.

The animated reading is targeted at children in primary and elementary school.
