Life in Bicocca: stories from the protagonists

The first photography contest of the MuDiB - Museo Diffuso Bicocca and the Area Servizi Culturali e Documentali, was born from the need to tell the story of the life of the University of Milano-Bicocca and its neighborhood through a shared narrative, which uses photography as a fovorite tool in conveying this complex, articulated and constantly changing reality.

The decision to ask the university community, the citizens of the neighborhood, and those who work and operate in this place to take a photograph, is motivated by the intent to tell, with one or more images, the daily life and contemporaneity.

The photo contest "Life in Bicocca: stories from the protagonists" aims to collect and enhance images that tell the story of life within the University and the area and that see, therefore, as protagonists the people who live and work in these places. Whether closed or open environments, large or small groups, individual subjects, the important thing is to enhance the experiences of people in a constant articulation of relationships with the Bicocca neighborhood.

The contest is open to everyone: it is aimed not only at the Milano-Bicocca University community - currently enrolled students at all levels, professors, researchers, fellows, scholars, linguistic assistants, technical administrative staff, Alumni - but also at the general public. The competition is also open to high school students, as long as they have reached the age of 18 by the call deadline.

If you do not have a University account: WRITE US! We will provide you with a temporary one. Send an email to concorsofotografico@unimib.it putting in the subject line: Mail for photo contest.

The competition is divided into three categories:

A) Portrait set figure (digital image in color or black and white).

B) Street photography (digital image in color or black and white).

C) Reportage (digital image in color and/or black and white).

For categories A) and B) it is allowed to participate with only one photograph. For category C) it is expected to submit an annotated portfolio with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 photographs.

Each author/participant is personally responsible criminally and civilly for the photographs submitted to the competition, holding the University harmless from any liability including to any subjects depicted.

Each author warrants that he/she has obtained the appropriate releases from the persons possibly portrayed in the submitted photographs, this is because the photographer's right to exhibit, reproduce or assign to third parties a portrait of a person, depends on the consent of that person (Art. 96 Law April 22, 1941 no. 633), therefore the Author, where the photographs include persons other than the Author who are easily recognizable and/or identifiable, must declare that he/she has a signed release from the subject(s) photographed, holding the University harmless from any possible recourse and/or claim by them for unauthorized use of his/her image.

Therefore, the participant must inform any interested parties (such as the persons portrayed) in the cases and in the manner provided by the Law to protect Privacy, explicitly confirming adherence to the provisions of the GDPR Regulation No. 679/2016 and what follows from it, and in particular from what is contained in Articles 13 to 22, and Article 34, as well as provide information inherent in the data processing where provided, under penalty of exclusion from the contest.

Through participation in the contest, the author authorizes the University to use the photographs in the contest for purposes pertaining to the event and its conduct. Participation in the contest therefore automatically entails the author granting the University the right to reproduce the photographs in all ways permitted by modern technology, for purposes related to the photo contest.

Uses other than these will be requested in advance from the author of the images.

By entering the competition, the author unconditionally accepts all the provisions of the announcement. For anything not explicitly stated, reference is made to Law No. 633 of April 22, 1941 (Official Gazette, 16.07.1941 No. 16, as amended), which regulates "The protection of copyright and other rights related to its exercise."
