Book presentation

Palazzina Appiani (Viale Giorgio Byron 2, Milano)| h. 15.00

Speakers of the event will be Giampaolo Nuvolati (professor of Sociology and Social Research, University of Milan- Bicocca) and Luca Bottini (professor of sociology and social research, University of Milan- Bicocca).

They will dialogue with Imma Fiorino (professor of Architecture and Urban Studies, Politecnico of Milan) and Bertrando Bonfantini (professor of Architecture and Urban Studies, Politecnico of Milan).

The event will be coordinated by Monica Bernardi (professor of Sociology and Social Research, University of Milan- Bicocca).

This encounter is an occasion to reflect on the potentialities that the Sociological Encyclopedia of Places (ESL), can have and, it's also an opportunity to describe and interpret, according to a sociological point of view, the places of our daily life (https://www.enciclopediasociologicadeiluoghi.it/).

In this fourth volume of ESL, there are about 80 voices which go from hotels to markets, from malls to stations, and from museums to schools.

Scholars of various subjects but prevalently urban sociology have written these voices.

The ESL offers to readers and researchers, all the basic elements to do research in the field and, it also helps them to ponder on the physical and symbolic changes characterizing natural and man-made landscapes, seen as a consequence of the pandemic. Every place is described according to its historical-architectonic evolution and for the renewed or new functions through which it responds to contemporary society.

In the book, there are also study cases, useful for comparative analysis.
